Treatment of heart attack - A new promising discovery

Germany - A team of German and Italian is on the trail of a new treatment that shows promise for people with myocardial infarction.

The discovery of a genetic fragment that allows an improvement in blood flow and cardiac activity when it is disabled. The first tests carried out on mice and fish have been very successful.

Heart attack or myocardial infarction prevents the blood from the heart for several minutes. Some myocardial muscle cells are altered or destroyed. A patient surviving a heart attack should take medication for the rest of his life in order to reduce the risk of new heart attack.

In the prospect of a more easy to live for these patients, the researchers found, in experiments on mice, a genetic sequence blocked the formation of new blood tissue in the area damaged by the infarction. This sequence, called microARm-92a, is also partly responsible for the decline in the influx of oxygen after the infarction.

Researchers have developed a drug that can disable this gene sequence and thus improve blood flow and cardiac activity. Side effects of the drug must now be studied in order to integrate the treatment protocols for stroke and other disorders of the blood diseases.
