The first bioethanol refinery plant will be built in Switzerland Delémont in canton Jura.

Led by Socété Grennbioenergy with an investment of 66.4 million euros, the project will be capable of producing 100,000 tonnes of biofuels and 30,000 tons of pharmaceutical alcohol per year.

The Swiss Confederation imposes requirements on environmental and social benefit for tax relief, the production cycle of the fuel must submit at least a profit of 40% of greenhouse gases compared to fossil fuel. This assessment must take into account the entire production chain, from growing to the end user.

Production will initially be provided by the importation of sugar cane in Brazil. Environmentalists strongly criticize this choice, pointing the violation of human rights, deforestation and loss of agriculture food.
